November 01, 2024 in Conventions & Conferences

Madrid for the Convention-Goer

If you’re visiting IFEMA for a conference or convention in Madrid, there’s more to explore beyond the event halls. Whether you’re looking for a comfortable hotel nearby, a taste of authentic Spanish cuisine, or a stroll through the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, this starter guide will help you unwind and experience Madrid like a local. If you don’t know what IFEMA is, read this: IFEMA 101

Where to Stay Near IFEMA

Staying close to IFEMA means easy access to your event. Staying close to the venue means easy access to rest OR to quickly freshen up so you can get out and explore the town. Here nearest and best hotel options close to IFEMA :

  1. Hotel Pullman Madrid Airport & Feria – This four-star hotel is right next to IFEMA and offers modern rooms, a pool, and excellent amenities for business travelers. It’s ideal for quick access to the venue.

  2. Novotel Madrid Campo de las Naciones – Located near IFEMA and the Madrid-Barajas Airport, this hotel is family-friendly and has comfortable rooms, meeting spaces, and a pool.

  3. NH Madrid Las Tablas – Although slightly further, this hotel is about a ten-minute drive from IFEMA. It offers a modern stay with a wellness center, making it a relaxing choice for business travelers.

  4. AC Hotel Madrid Feria (Marriott) – This hotel is just a few minutes from IFEMA, offering sleek accommodations and amenities like a fitness center and meeting rooms.

Shopping in Madrid: Upscale and Central

If you’re ready to venture out for some shopping, Madrid has plenty to offer:

  • Barrio de Salamanca – Known for its upscale shops and luxury boutiques along Calle Serrano and Calle de Jorge Juan, this elegant neighborhood is perfect for those seeking designer brands and exclusive stores.

  • Gran Vía – This central avenue is the heart of Madrid’s shopping district. You’ll find a mixture of spanish and international retailers, as well as top national retailers in the side streets

From here, take a self-guided walking tour to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace. These are iconic stops and within minutes you’ll get a taste of Madrid’s historic charm and vibrant street life.

Experience Madrid’s Culinary Side

Madrid’s food scene is rich with both traditional flavors and modern twists. If you’re staying near IFEMA, these five spots offer some of the best Spanish and contemporary cuisine in the area or close by:

  1. Asador Nuevo Porche – Known for its wood-fired meats and traditional Spanish dishes, this cozy spot near IFEMA is a local favorite.

  2. La Canica – A modern, stylish restaurant serving creative takes on Spanish tapas and Mediterranean-inspired dishes, ideal for unwinding after a conference.

  3. Restaurante La Máquina – Located in the nearby Plaza de Castilla, this restaurant serves traditional Spanish seafood and rice dishes in a welcoming environment.

  4. La Gran Pulpería – Just a short drive from IFEMA, La Gran Pulpería is know for it’s traditional Galician (Northwest Spain Coast) cuisine, especially it’s octopus, which is where the restaurant’s name comes from… The Great Octopus House

Tapas Only??

For those looking to enjoy tapas after a day at IFEMA, Calle Cava Baja in the La Latina neighborhood is the place to be. This lively street is lined with classic tapas bars, offering everything from jamón and patatas bravas to grilled pulpo (octopus) and fresh tortilla española. It’s a casual yet vibrant spot to experience Madrid’s famous tapas culture.

Flamenco and Festivals

A flamenco show is always a great way to immerse yourself in Spanish culture. You’ll find popular flamenco venues across the city, offering vibrant performances filled with rhythm and passion. Here are 2 spots that I recommend:

  1. Corral de la Morería

  2. Tablao Flamenco 1911

Tablao Flamenco 1911

For more current events and festivals, check out the Madrid City website, which is also available in English.

Take a Walk Through Retiro Park

If you’re looking to unwind or take in some nature, head to Retiro Park. This historic park in the city center is ideal for a relaxing stroll, a quick visit to the lake, or exploring landmarks like the Crystal Palace. Retiro is the perfect place to recharge.

Whatever You Do, Enjoy!!

Coming to Madrid for all work and no play would be such a loss! Take advantage of the upscale shopping, timeless cuisine and picturesque parks, the city has something for everyone. Whether you’re unwinding after a day at IFEMA or exploring Madrid’s culinary and cultural gems, I hope these recommendations your stay to be as memorable as it is productive.
